Moment to Moment
I was reading an article on a website about the boy from Canada whose life and death sparked a huge debate over the right to life. While I prefer not to discuss my own belief in regards to the issue, I was struck by a statement one of the reverends, involved with helping the family, made. "We remain convinced that the value of life is not measured in months or years, but rather reflected in the love we share moment to moment" (Rev. Frank Pavone). This statement although simple in concept is tremendous in the effect it had on me. The reality for many is that life is too short and we take that for granted. Is it not better to realize that we must love each other in the moments we do have, and let go of what causes us to be unable to do so. A moment can be fleeting and before we know it, we have lost that chance. Once gone it can not come back. This effects me personally because I realize the greatness of this responsibility; I must not take for granted what I have in my life and cherish it to the fullest extent possible while I can. Tomorrow may lead to another road that makes that ability impossible. In realizing this idea, I am not bothered by the sadness that one could feel when faced with such a thought, instead I am challenged and encouraged to do the best I can while I have the ability. Life is too short, I would prefer to live it moment to moment, instead of wondering why I never did.
